〰️ ELECTION DAY IS MAY 5TH

Youngstown native and Austintown resident, Jordan J. Pegues is proud to announce that he is running for State Representative in the 58th District of Ohio in the upcoming May 5 Primary Election.

Jordan is a graduate of Ursuline High School and a member of their first State Champion football team. He finished his education at the University of Mount Union, majoring in sports management and minoring in business.

As a project specialist he managed multi-million dollar accounts such as Chargepoint, an electric vehicle charging company, and Starlink, a satellite internet provider. Both of these were manufactured right here in our back yard.

He currently works for Wesco Distributions, which is a fortune 500 company and a global leader of business to business distribution within the electrical, communication and utility industries.

As a proud homeowner in Austintown Township, Jordan and his lovely wife La’Teese are invested in the future of our neighborhoods and the strength of our community.

ELECTION DAY

WHO IS JORDAN PEGUES?

The simple answer is that I want to be of service and make a difference for the people of this community. However, it’s much deeper than that. I’m a son of Youngstown, born & raised right on the southside. I climbed trees in Mill Creek Park, I spent weekends on the Sharon-Line; I have deep roots here.

I want happiness and prosperity for my family and I consider everyone here as part of that family. I believe people are losing faith in government and it starts with the lack of representation.

When people can’t see themselves reflected in their leadership or are disconnected from their representatives, they don’t just lose interest, they lose hope. I believe that I can bridge the gap and reconnect with people in order to develop policy that truly benefits our communities.

Why i’m running

I don’t have a career in politics, but I am committed to this area and the people within it. You can’t hear if you’re always talking. I believe that the most important job of a politician is to listen, not to talk.

Engaging, Listening & Understanding is how you truly make a connection with the people you represent. I won’t promise that I will be able to fix every problem, however, I will promise that I’ll be accessible, transparent and actively fighting for the improvement of our district.

I want higher paying jobs, I want affordability, I want to help fix the education system and I want our children to have a future. We are at a crossroads, and it's time to demand more for the Mahoning Valley!

  • Accessibility in government is needed in order for this to be called a democracy. A government of the people, by the people, and for the people only works when people’s voices are heard.

Decisions about the Valley have been made behind closed doors in Columbus. As your State Rep, my office won't just be a building—it will be a resource. I am committed to being a representative that is accessible to all the citizens living in District 58.

I’m not a career politician; I’m your neighbor. Life has taught me that success only happens when you listen to understand. I understand the people of the Mahoning Valley and I’ll fight to make it a priority to the State House in Columbus!

My goal is to make sure that everyone in district 58 knows who their state representative is and what they can do for them. This includes regular Town Hall Meetings, either in person or virtual. I would also commit to distributing frequent newsletters or updates on important legislation.

  • Nearly 75% of Mahoning Valley residents spend almost half of their income on Housing, Utilities & Transportation. While trying to feed a family, a paycheck doesn’t go as far as it used to.

People are stretched thin, some are trapped in pay day loans or credit card debt just to get by. This must change. If we want people to be involved in the community it starts with lifting the burden of living paycheck to paycheck.

The fix is obvious, we need better paying jobs. I will be an aggressive advocate for the Ohio Job Creation Tax Credit‍ and other Business Incentives to attract new industries to our district. I will collaborate with my fellow elected officials in the district to invite new business and good paying jobs to the Mahoning Valley.

I stand with labor unions and against any legislation aimed at weakening their stability. There must be a fair playing field involving Project Labor Agreements to ensure high quality work. The safety of our community must not be put in jeopardy just to save a few dollars.

I not only want to protect prevailing wages, I want to make sure that it aligns with the rising costs of inflation. It’s good for our local economy to provide skilled, qualified, workers in our valley with fair wages. Those workers are consumers who will pay taxes to local municipalities and shop at local businesses. It is a winning strategy for the valley.

  • Youngstown City Schools have been in Academic Distress for over a decade, 16 years to be exact. I fully support HB 610, proposed by Representative Lauren McNally, which aims to dissolve the Distress Committee and give back control to a local board. Once that happens, I will work to provide all the necessary resources needed to revive our education system.

The Fair School Funding Plan is only being “phased in” but I’m advocating for 100% implementation. We need the funding now, not later. The longer we wait, the harder it becomes to correct this massive injustice done to our children. Every dollar that the state pays through the Fair School Funding Plan is a dollar that doesn’t have to come from hardworking people in Youngstown, Poland, Austintown as well as all the other townships within District 58.

With appropriate funding our schools will be able to provide adequate facilities and staffing to give the students the education they deserve. Services like Busing and IEP programs should not be considered non-essential; to some students these are absolute necessities.

  • As someone who has experience with a chronic illness and a disability, I know first hand the difficulty of navigating the health care system; it almost feels like a second full-time job. The families of District 58 are paying into a system that doesn’t work for them.

It should not take months to schedule a routine doctors appointment. It should not take driving to Cleveland because our emergency waiting room is packed out the door. We can not have people skipping out on life saving prescriptions because they can’t afford them.

With all the facility closures and loss of specialized care, such as losing the only maternity ward in the district, it feels as if our healthcare system is on life support. However, we have some of the most qualified and passionate workers right here in the valley that can help revive it. All they need is the opportunity!

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek
